She’s Staging It / 2012
Director Fia-Stina Sandlund, actors Alexandra Dahlström, Lea Robinson, Elizabeth Whitney and the dog Ellie meet at a theater in Croton Falls upstate New York. During 11 days they will be working on August Strindberg’s famous play Miss Julie with the aim to save Julie from the obligatory suicide.
The director gives the actors there weapons to use:
Three experts are also invited on set: a Strindberg expert, a psychoanalyst and a dominatrix. Each one of them helps the actors to come up with a strategy that will guarantee a different outcome. The workshop ends with a live performance where the actors perform the new version of the play in front of a small audience. Everything during the eleven days are being filmed. The line between the actors’ personas and the characters are blurred when discourse become practice and the drama is given new life.
She’s Staging it, is #2 in a film trilogy based August Strindberg’s Miss Julie. It’s commissioned by the Swedish TV (K-special) and will be premiered in May 2012.
